TRISHA PAYTAS: THE ERAS TOUR — HOW SHE HOOKED A GENERATION HER CONTENT. (2024)

Trisha Paytas has had another career resurgence with her new podcast “Just Trish.” With 17 years on social media, Trisha has had many lives or eras in her career. Trisha’s content strategy is to change her content frequently, finding different niches. Trisha also utilizes posting frequently on many platforms.

Across these two decades, Trisha has tried vlogging, trolling, mukbangs, music, ASMR, family-focused content, and social media like TikTok. Her typical content includes vlogs, providing glimpses into her daily life, where she shares meals and engages in discussions, and ASMR. From her beginnings on YouTube to today, Trisha’s ability to adapt and redefine herself has been a key element of her enduring popularity.

Trisha Paytas embodies the ever-evolving nature of internet fame, where honesty, memes, and a connection with the audience are key to a lasting digital presence and a full-time career as a content creator.

Traditional Media Era (2006–2012)

Flashback to ’07 blndsundoll4mj on YouTube, Trisha Paytas starts her career in social media. Her first video was titled, “TRISHA PAYTAS’ FIRST YOUTUBE VIDEO (2007).” Accumulated over 958,067 views on the platform.

Ushering in the new era of content creation, Trisha began her career as an influencer, before the world had a concept of monetizing their daily life and thoughts.

During this era, Trisha Paytas worked as a lingerie model, stripper, and escort. YouTube did not have a partner program during this time. Trisha appeared on various network shows such as Modern Family, Ellen, and My Strange Addiction and music videos for Eminem and Amy Winehouse.

Trolling Era (2013–2017)

Trisha’s content evolved during the Trolling Era (2013–2017), characterized by controversial videos and embracing the mukbang trend.

Her political statements led to intense debates and discussions among her followers, as well as the wider online community. During this period, Trisha faced criticism for insensitivity to the concerns of marginalized communities affected by Trump’s policies. She was crediting this entire time to being a “troll” on the internet. Trisha was labelled by many as attention-seeking, and rightfully so. Trisha has since apologized. This era still affects her brand partnerships and sponsorships today.

Algorithmic discrimination, how platforms determine which posts to promote and highlight, affects Trisha Paytas’ content following her trolling era. Content moderation on YouTube and other platforms facilitates, monetizes, and governs users on the platform. During this time, Trisha’s platform was removed, and she was routinely used as a “lolcow”.

Christian Worship Singer Era (2015–2018)

Trisha Paytas surprised audiences with a shift to Christian worship music, while simultaneously releasing albums like “Fat Chicks” and “Superficial Bitch.” Sparking discussions on authenticity, which are still in question today, “Fat Chicks” her first studio album released on March 6th, 2019, addressed body positivity, self-acceptance, sex, and relationships.

Among her musical endeavours, one of Trisha’s most iconic songs is “I Love You, Jesus.” Released in 2017 as a part of her Christian worship singer era, this song became widely recognized and accumulated over 9 million views on YouTube.

Crying on the Kitchen Floor Era (2018–2020)

The “Crying on the Kitchen Floor” era in Trisha Paytas’ career was defined by public sharing of personal struggles. This era on her YouTube channel and social media, was followed by emotional distress, mental health issues, and breakups. During this era, Trisha posted raw and emotional videos on her YouTube channel that showcased her in a vulnerable state, often sitting on her kitchen floor, crying, and venting.

In addition to relationship struggles, Trisha openly addressed her battles with substance abuse during the “Crying on the Kitchen Floor” era. Videos featured her suffering from issues related to drug use, self-medicating, and the effect of drugs on her overall well-being. The emotional videos, often filmed in a confessional style on her kitchen floor, became a symbolic representation of Trisha’s willingness to share her unfiltered emotions with her audience.

SADBOY2005 + King Tut Era (2020–2022)

The SADBOY2005 + King Tut Era expanded Trisha’s content to include ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response), catering to a broader audience. During this era, Trisha made a strategic pivot in content creation and business ventures.

This started reshaping Trisha Paytas’ reputation. The “SADBOY2005 + King Tut Era” also witnessed a strategic expansion into adult content creation through OnlyFans. This platform, known for its subscription-based model, became a significant facet of Trisha’s monetization strategy, contributing to her financial success during this era.

Due to strict content moderation, following Trisha’s expansion to p*rn and online sex work, she was unfairly targeted by social media platforms. Trisha got banned from her Instagram account multiple times, eventually resulting in a permanent ban on the app, causing her to move to a “backup account”.

Like a finsta account, her backup account was opened in preparation for the account closure. Many sex workers who market their p*rnographic content have used this same strategy to avoid bans and restrictions, and allow for a community hub for their content.

Later, Trisha Paytas’ copyrighted OnlyFans content was distributed unlawfully to fans of Colleen Ballinger by Colleen herself. OnlyFans platform has strict copyright policies to protect its creators and encourage more sex workers to the platform. Colleen is accused of sending Trisha’s explicit sexual content to minors.

Simultaneously, Trisha’s involvement in the infamous podcast “Frenemies,” co-hosted with Ethan Klein, further intensified her online presence. Premiered in 2020, “Frenemies” Trisha and Ethan captivated audiences with their humour in episodes featuring heated debates, emotional confrontations, and a transparent exploration of their friendship.

Yet, Frenemies” eventually became a double-edged sword, leading to a series of public disputes that culminated in the podcast’s abrupt end in June 2021.

During the filming of “Frenemies,” Trisha met her now husband Moses, her co-host’s brother-in-law, leading her to a happier and healthier era.

Today (Present)

Despite controversies, Trisha’s openness has contributed to her broad impact and dedicated following. Trisha Paytas has navigated almost two decades of internet fame, evolving her content and personal brand through various eras and challenges.
