Jazz Festival
Festival Date: January
Application/Fees Deadline:  December
Location: UNLV, Alta Ham Fine Arts & Beam Music Center

Jazz Festival is a fun recital environment in which students can perform “lighter” repertoire. It is open to all ages. Recitals are short, about 30-45 minutes in length. At the conclusion of each recital there is a door prize drawing for one lucky student. All students receive a Certificate of Participation.

Jazz Festival is a great opportunity to “break in” new students to performance, as it is a fun no-pressure atmosphere. If there are enough adult students, they may participate in a special recital set aside for them.

Rules:

1. Entry fee: $6 per student per event (solo and/or ensemble). Application/fees deadline: Saturday, December 18, 2004. This date will be strictly observed. Plan ahead. No applications will be accepted in January. Prepare one application for each requested time slot. Collect fees from parents and write only one check (payable to LVMTA).
Send to: Kara Davis, 3730 Sable Palm St., N. Las Vegas, NV 89032

2. Maximum solo playing time per student is three (3) minutes.
Ensembles will have five (5) minutes maximum playing time.
Exceptions to these time limits must be approved by the Chairman.

3. Suggested repertoire may include contemporary, jazz, popular, blues, ragtime, boogie, rock, show tunes – anything FUN!

4. Any performance medium is encouraged (piano, keyboard, guitar, voice, woodwind, string, brass – whatever).

5. Ensembles of all kinds are encouraged. There will be 5 digital pianos available, as well as a drum set. Let’s rock! And roll!

6. Although recitals are only 30 – 45 minutes in length, at least two teachers will be represented. Participating teachers must plan to help monitor recitals.

7. Casual dress is acceptable. Students may wish to dress according to the type of music they perform.

8. Proper recital “etiquette” should still be practiced (especially bowing before and after performances).

9. Students and parents must stay until the end of the recital.
